Disgraceful! PVC distribution in Ogba fails to kick off as INEC officials did not turn up

The scheduled distribution of Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) to prospective voters failed to kick off at the Thomas Salako (Ogba, Lagos) centre as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not show up.

Encomium.ng monitored proceedings and reports that only a desk, a pen and a note book were all the materials made available for prospective voters to register their names and contact numbers as they arrived in the morning of November 7.

As the hours rolled by, more prospective voters turned up in the hope of collecting their PVCs as scheduled, but all they got was to write down their names – with the list eventually containing nearly 200 names and contact phone numbers.

They left in frustration at the disgraceful unpreparedness of INEC, with many of them lamenting over the several hours blown away waiting to no avail.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Lagos State, Adekunle Ogunmola, had earlier highlighted that the PVC distribution exercise would hold in 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the state between Friday (November 7) and Sunday (November 9).

The LGAs where the exercise was billed to hold are: Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako- Ijaiye(under which Thomas Salako center is), Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin and Ojo.

For the nine other LGAs where the PVC distribution was postponed, Ogunmola said it will now hold between Friday (November 28) and Sunday (November 30). The nine LGAs are Alimosho, Amuwo Odofin, Apapa,  Badagry, Epe, Oshodi- Isolo, Somolu,  Surulere and Eti-Osa.
