What I dislike about WhatsApp groups (2)

WhatsApp groups are mushrooming, and many Nigerians are upset about the messages sent by their compatriots.

We spoke to some on their experiences…

Deji Williams
I don’t like the repeated number of times they post a story on the platform. You find out that a particular information will be posted, especially videos and pictures repeatedly. Some will even automatically download by itself, making you waste your small data.

I dislike the fact you meet a lot of total strangers chatting you up. If you ask them how did you get my number, they simply reply, from the group chat. I also hate the fact that I will wake up to read over 500 messages from a group. Gosh! When do I finish reading all the messages?

Emmanuel Ayomide
I dislike unsolicited videos and pictures. Imagine someone shares a 20MB video only for me to download it and find out that it was a dog chasing a goat.

Yinka Adeleke
People post irrelevant messages and at the end, people fight over nothing, abuse others. And by the time there is an important message across, you won’t even know because of the numerous irrelevant messages they post repeatedly.

Chisom Obioma
When someone is using the group chat medium to converse with only one member, I hate it. Too many messages at the same time, my battery doesn’t stay longer because of constant vibration. I hate the automatic downloading of pictures and videos.

Opeyemi Daniel

Too much frivolous chats.
Sometimes reading unnecessary quibbling members.
Wasting my battery and data in the face of no light and money.
